Excellent education in an international atmosphere - from kindergarten through high school
The German School Nairobi is situated in a prominent location in the suburb of Gigiri on Limuru Road directly opposite the popular shopping centre Village Market, close to the East African headquarters of the United Nations and many embassies. Established in 1969, it has a long tradition and has been given the prestigious seal “Excellent German School Abroad” in 2011.
The atmosphere is very international. 220 students and 130 pre-school children from over 30 nations are currently attending school and kindergarten. The offer of bilingual kindergarten, elementary, and secondary education on one campus ensures consistently high quality education. This is particularly good for children whose mother tongue is not German, as they will benefit from bilingual education from the very beginning.
In addition to elementary and secondary education the GSN has recently introduced the internationally recognized German International Baccalaureate (Deutsche Internationale Abiturprüfung – DIAP). Classes are not only held in German, but some topics are also taught in English, such as geography (from grade 9) and history (from grade 9).
Small classes allow for individual attention and support, and strengthen the cohesion among the students.
Instruction is supplemented by a variety of offerings, such as work experience programmes, project weeks, participation at the annual conference held at the United Nations, as well as a wide range of extra-curricular activities in the afternoon. From sport, to music to art and theatre, there is something for everyone at the German School Nairobi.
The school campus is located on large, sprawling grounds with spacious play areas and state of the art playgrounds, as well as many sports facilities such as a 25-metre swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, a football field, a gymnastics room and a large multipurpose hall. The school also offers homework supervision and weekend activities.
