In 1964, just one year after independence, the first Resident Representative of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) was sent to Nairobi to open an office from which all further activities would be coordinated. FES has been continuously working in Kenya since then. In May 1972, a first official agreement between the Government of Kenya and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung was signed. Throughout its presence in Kenya, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung has collaborated with a wide array of partners from universities, civil society organizations, trade unions, government departments, local communities, and political parties who share and support the values and ideas of Social Democracy.

Our cooperation with Kenyan partners continues to be based on the values of Social Democracy. We work for social justice, democracy, peace, and international solidarity in Kenya, in over 20 offices around the African continent and in over 100 offices around the world. With our partners in Kenya, FES works on different national, global, and regional issues. We strive to enable and strengthen social justice and democratic political participation. Together with young people, we develop ideas for shaping a better future. We act towards strengthening the representation of workers' interests by means of political education and international networking. The overall focus of our work in Kenya is to support progressive political, social, and economic processes in society.
